The Front Porch Times began as a blog written by neighbors in Monona who also happen to be writers. Currently Anita Ashland writes all the posts, with Tom Mulroe occasionally contributing photos of Monona.

I share my stories and musings as I go about my life in and around Monona, Wisconsin.

As Wendell Berry said, “In a truly grounded, locally adapted culture, the artists would be the rememberers. They would memorialize great occasions, preserve necessary insights and so on.”

A former neighbor once said: “I think that one of the greatest gifts a writer can give her community is Witnessing. Witnessing the events, overt and covert, that create shifting and movement on the many levels of life. That’s what wakes us up.”
